Mason, Walker, Matic Honored by NEWVA

NEW LONDON, Conn. Seniors Keriann Mason, Catherine Walker, and Karen Matic were each recognized by the New England Women's Volleyball Association (NEWVA).

Walker and Mason have been invited to play in the 2012 NEWVA Senior Classic, Sunday, Dec. 2, at Babson College while Matic was named a 2012 NEWVA Honorable Mention.

The NEWVA Senior Classic is comprised of New England's top 35 Division III senior volleyball players, voted by the head coaches of the participating institutions. The annual event features the area's top seniors competing in various skills competitions leading up to the afternoon's all-star match.

Mason led the Bears this season with 348 kills and posted 409 digs while in her final season. Her 940 career kills is good enough for 10th in program history and she is fourth all-time with 1,257 digs.

Walker was second on the team with 280 kills to go with her 49 blocks. Walker eclipsed the 1,000 kill mark this season, finishing with 1,032 for her career, good enough for eighth in Bears history. She ranks seventh in program history with 424 career games played.

Matic led the team with 575 assists to go with her 226 digs. Matic is tied for first in career games in program history with 440, second in assists with 3,686, and seventh in career digs with 1225.

Over their four-year career, Mason, Walker, and Matic have led the Bears to two ECAC Championships, a NEWMAC Regular Season Championship, a NEWMAC Tournament Championship, a second round appearance in the NCAA Championship, and a 102-31 overall record.
