SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Junior Ashley Dumont had a match-high eight kills without an error while adding four blocks leading Coast Guard to its fifth straight win a 3-0 win over Mount Holyoke in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game. The Bears won 25-7, 25-11, 25-18.
The Bears improved to 15-7 overall and 5-1 in conference play by beating the Lyons for the 15th straight time all by 3-0 scores to improve to 20-1 all-time vs. Mount Holyoke, which drops to 2-16 overall and 0-7 in the NEWMAC.
The Bears jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the first set en route to a 25-7 win.
In the second set, Coast Guard scored five straight to open up a 14-7 lead and the Bears leading 18-10 scored seven of the final eight points for the 25-11 win.
Coast Guard closed out the match by scoring the final four points in the third set for the 25-18 win.
Freshman Emma Saunders had seven kills while freshman Michelle McGill and junior Maggie Hine each had a match-high 13 digs in the win for Coast Guard while sophomore Susan West had match-high six blocks.
"It was a good night as our entire team was able to contribute to the win," said Coast Guard head coach Aylene Ilkson. "We worked hard the last two days to really refine certain aspects of our play and it showed tonight."
Coast Guard has the weekend off before the Bears are back in action on Tuesday at Wheaton in a conference game at 7 p.m.
