NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Senior Susan West, in the final home game of her career, had a team-high 13 kills leading Coast Guard to a 3-1 win over Wellesley in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Game on Senior Night.
Junior Madison Scott added 12 kills hitting .364 with a team-high six aces, freshman Alexi Deane added ten kills and junior Emma Saunders hit .368 with eight kills in the win. Junior Michelle McGill and sophomore Hailye Reynolds each had 12 digs to lead the Bears while freshman Makenna Martin led the way with a match-high 43 assists.
The Bears, who have now won three straight and eight of their last nine won 25-13, 22-25, 25-15, 25-21.
Coast Guard improves to 17-10 overall and 6-3 in the conference while Wellesley dips to 12-14 overall and 5-4 in the NEWMAC.
Coast Guard scored six straight and used a 10-1 run to take a commanding 16-6 lead in the opener and won 25-13.
In the second game, the Blue scored three straight to take a 12-9 lead and maintained the lead throughout and won 25-22 to even the match.
The Bears jumped out to an 11-2 lead in the third game, led by as many as 11 at 19-8 and won 25-15.
Coast Guard used a 5-1 run turning a 12-12 tie into an 18-3 lead in the fourth game and never looked back winning 25-21 to close out the match.
Sophomore Yasmine Reece led the Blue with a match-high 15 kills while freshman Meghan Shoop added nine kills to go with her team-high ten digs. Sophomore Michelle Li led Wellesley with 34 assists.
Coast Guard will close out the regular season on Saturday at MIT at 1:00 before the NEWMAC tournament begins on Tuesday, November 1st.
