Bears Open Season With Pair of Victories

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Coast Guard began the 2017 season with a pair of wins at the Cortland Red Dragon Classic.


The Bears won 25-17, 15-25, 25-22, 25-22 as sophomore Angelou Dunton and classmate Alexi Deane each recorded 10 kills to lead Coast Guard.

Freshman Bridget Boyle had 10 digs to lead theBears in her collegiate debut.

Senior Michelle McGill had 10 digs while Makenna Martin had a team-high 32 assists in the win.


The Bears won 25-20, 25-22, 25-16.

Dunton led the way with 18 kills while junior Mackenzie Everett had a team-high 12 digs in the straight set win.

Martin once again led the Bears with 34 assists.

The Bears, who begin the season with nine matches in eight days, will take on Fredonia tomorrow at 11 and Vassar at 1:30 in the final day of play in tournament.
