Bears Split Pair at North County Invitational

CANTON, N.Y. -- Coast Guard split a pair of matches at the North County Invitational. The Bears rallied for a 3-2 win over host St. Lawrence before falling in straight sets to Geneseo 3-0.

Coast Guard is off to a 3-1 start and the Bears will be back in action on Wednesday night at Trinity at 7:00 before returning home to host the Coast Guard/Conn. College Tournament with four matches on the weekend.

Junior Angelou Dunton earned a spot on the All-tournament team.

COAST GUARD 3, ST. LAWRENCE 2

The Saints won the first two sets 25-19, 27-25 before the Bears rallied to win 25-19, 25-22, 15-9 in the five-setter and improve to 3-0 on the young season.

Freshman Amanda Dake had a team-high 10 kills while Dunton and freshman Mary Sweet each added nine kills in the win.

Sophomore Veronica Hine led the Bears with 18 digs while junior Makenna Martin had 18 and sophomore Bridget Boyle added 10 digs. Martin led the way with 21 assists while freshman Nikki Sefcik finished with 13 for Coast Guard.

Mary Sweet had seven blocks while Boyle added six.

GENESEO 3, COAST GUARD 0

The Bears lost 25-15, 25-21, 21-16.

Freshman Maddie James had a team-high 10 kills as she hit .667 to lead the Bears. Martin led the way with 14 assists and Hine had a team-high 12 digs for the Bears.
