Dunton Leads Bears to Pair of Wins

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Junior Angelou Dunton totaled 22 kills on the night as Coast Guard swept a pair of matches beating Western Connecticut and Maine Maritime both by 3-0 scores on the opening night of the CGA/Conn. College Tournament.

Coast Guard is off to a 6-1 start, its best start since the Bears also opened the season 6-1 in 2011.

The Bears are back in action tomorrow when they host Salve Regina at noon and Oneonta at 2:00.

COAST GUARD 3, WESTERN CONNECTICUT 0

(25-20, 25-12, 25-20)

Junior Angelou Dunton had a team-high nine kills to go with six digs and freshman Mary Sweet hit .750 with six kills leading the Bears to the 3-0 win.

Sophomore Bridget Boyle added eight kills, junior Makenna Martin had a team-high 15 assists to go with three aces while sophomore Veronica Hine had a match high 15 digs and six service aces as the Bears improved to 5-1 on the season.

Senior Kamari King led Western Connecticut with nine kills, senior Jenna Pisano led the way with 12 digs and classmate Jenna Skerritt led the way with 21 assists.

 

COAST GUARD 3, MAINE MARITIME 0

(25-22, 26-24, 25-13)

Dunton hit .407 with a match-high 13 kills to go with 12 digs leading Coast Guard to the 3-0 win.

Sophomore Heather Miller had a team-high 15 digs while Martin led the way with 18 assists and freshman Nikki Sefcik added 16 assists in the win for the Bears. 

Junior Avery O'Neal led the Mariners with nine kills.
