NEW LONDON, Conn. – Freshman Amanda Dake had a match-high 13 kills as host Coast Guard won its third straight beating Connecticut College 3-0 in the battle between the two New London schools.
Coast Guard won by scores of 25-21, 25-17 and 25-20.
The Bears, ranked 10th in New England, beat the Camels for the fifth straight time to improve to 17-8 overall while Conn. College drops to 8-12 on the season.
Junior Angelou Dunton added 11 kills and eight digs while sophomore Bridget Boyle had nine kills. Junior Makenna Martin led the Bears with match-high 40 assists.
Sophomore Emma Hewlin hit .611 and led the Camels with 11 kills while freshman Avery Light added 10 kills.
In the opening set, the score was tied 16-16 when the Bears scored six straight to take a 22-16 lead on their way to a 25-21 win.
Coast Guard would use a 4-1 run to open up a 10-6 lead early in the second set. The Bears would later run off four straight and nine of the next 11 points capped on back-to-back aces by Dunton to open up a 19-10 lead. The Camels would score six of the next seven to close to within 20-16 before the Bears closed the set by scoring five of the final six points for the 25-17 win.
In the third set, Coast Guard scored seven straight including three aces from sophomore Veronica Hine to take a 9-4 lead. The Bears would stretch the lead to 14-7 and never look back closing out the match 25-20.
Coast Guard is back in action on Saturday at the Hall of Fame Tournament at Amherst College when the Bears play Bates at 9:00 and Bowdoin at 1:00.
