NEW LONDON, Conn.--(11/4/11)--The United States Coast Guard Academy placed a trio of cadet-athletes on the 2011 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Cross Country All-Academic team.
Senior captain Katie Schumacher, a Civil Engineering major, and juniors Julia Kane (Electrical Engineering) and Caroline Truesdell (Mechanical Engineering) were all named to the team from Coast Guard.
Schumacher earns Academic All-conference honors in cross country for the second straight season while Kane and Truesdell earned the honor for the first time.
Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2010 spring semester, achieved second year academic status at his or her institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.
The NEWMAC consists of 10 highly selective institutions committed to academic excellence: Babson College, Clark University, U.S Coast Guard Academy, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, Springfield College, Wellesley College, Wheaton College, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
