Women's XC Finish 5th at NEWMAC Championships

NORTHAMPTON, MASS. – Women's Cross Country finished fifth overall in the NEWMAC Championships hosted by Smith College this afternoon. The Bears had three runners place in the top 40 out of a field of 145 total runners.

Sophomore Bethany Gollin led the way for Coast Guard finishing the 5k course in 19:42, good enough for 28th place overall. Senior Sarah Blatt finished second for the Bears with a time of 19:59, finishing in 33rd overall. Junior Meghan Kalinowski came in right behind her, finishing in 37th place with a time of 20:01.

Sophomore Kendall Auth and freshman Emily Quallen also had strong performances for Coast Guard finishing with times of 20:18 and 20:24, respectfully.

MIT, the top ranked program in the country, captured its sixth consecutive NEWMAC Championships as they placed the first eight finishers. MIT senior Brooke Johnson finished first with a time of 18:30.

Next weekend the Bears will travel to Williams College for the ECAC Championships.
