Mooney Paces Bears to Second Place Finish

MANCHESTER, Conn. – Freshman Kaitlyn Mooney made her Coast Guard debut count as she bested the field by over 40 seconds as the Bears opened with a second place finish at the Trinity Invitational at Wickham Park.

Coast Guard also sealed up the first point of the year against Merchant Marine in the race for the Superintendent's Trophy.

Host Trinity came in first with 29 points while Eastern Connecticut was third with 94 points.

Mooney crossed the line in 19:01.5 to beat the next closest runner by almost 46 seconds. Her time is the 10th fastest 5K in program history moving her just ahead of Sarah Blatt (2009).

The next finisher for Coast Guard was junior Anita Green who cracked the top 10 with a ninth place finish (21:09.4) followed by a 12th place finish from senior Rachel Burchill (21:20.2).

Junior Nina Ragle finished in 21:41.7 (20th place) while freshman Maeve Roach also was in the top 25 finishing in 23rd place (21:44.4).

Wrapping up the top seven for the Bears was sophomore Kirsten Carson in 26th place (21:57.6) and sophomore Olivia Suski right behind her in 27th place (22:05.5).

Coast Guard is back in action Saturday, September 23rd when they travel to Williamstown, Massachusetts for the Purple Valley Invitational hosted by Williams.
