NEW LONDON, Conn. – Freshman Kaitlyn Mooney has been named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week as she set the school record in the 6K in her 6K collegiate debut at the Williams Purple Valley Invitational on Saturday.
She wins the honor for the second time this season as she placed second with a school record time of 22:02 breaking the mark of Beth Gollin who ran a 22:16 in 2013.
Mooney placed second this week in a field that featured Victoria Kingham of Williams (2015 All-American), Elise Ramirez of SUNY Geneseo (2016 Atlantic All-Region), Natalie Bettez of Tufts (2016 New England All-Region) and Sofia Canning of Dickinson (2016 Mid-East All-Region). Mooney finished behind only two-time cross country All-American Taryn Cordani from Ithaca.
