Freshman Kaitlyn Mooney has been named both the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division III National Athlete of the Week and New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week.

Mooney remained undefeated in 5K races to start her Coast Guard career winning the Saratoga Invitational hosted by RPI on Saturday. Mooney ran 17:07.5 to top the field of 221 runners. Her time is the fastest 5K in program history besting the time of 17:48 set by All-American Tammy Wilcox in 1995.

Mooney now owns the fastest 5K and 6K in Coast Guard women's cross country history. To put Mooney's time in perspective, it was just one second slower than what two-time NCAA DIII XC individual champion Amy Regan ran on that same course back in 2014. Regan won her first NCAA XC individual title later that season.

She has all won the NEWMAC runner of the week honors after all three of her races this season.

The Bears will have a week off before racing at the Conn. College Invitational at Harkness Park on Oct. 14th.
