Mooney's School Record Paces Bears to Top 10 Finish

WATERFORD, Conn. – Freshman Kaitlyn Mooney once again smashed her 6K school record on her way to winning her third race of the season as the Bears competed at the Conn. College Cross Country Invitational at Harkness Park.

Coast Guard finished in eighth place with 214 points. RPI won the meet with 55 points followed by Middlebury with 77 points.

Mooney crossed the line in 21:35.8 to beat the next closest runner, Brittany Bowan; 2015 All-American, by 20 seconds. Her time tops her school record of 22:02 set two weeks ago at the Purple Valley Invitational.

Junior Anita Green was next finished for the bears in 36th place (23:42.2) while senior Rachel Burchill was the third Bear across the line in 53rd place (24:06.3).

Junior Nina Ragle and sophomore Kirsten Carson finished one after the other as Ragle ran 24:40.1 (87th place) followed by Carson in 24:40.3 (88th place).

Rounding out the top seven for Coast Guard was sophomore Olivia Suski in 117th place (25:10.6) and freshman Mia Huncharek (26:20.4) in 180th.

The Bears have one weekend off before they travel to Boston, Massachusetts for the NEWMAC Championship on October 29th.
