Mooney Wins NEWMAC Championship, Green Earns All-Conference Honors

BOSTON, Mass. – In her New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship debut freshman Kaitlyn Mooney took home first place helping to lead the Coast Guard women's cross country team to a third place finish Sunday afternoon.

With the victory, Mooney earned NEWMAC Rookie and Runner of the Year honors. She becomes the first champion in program history.

The Bears scored 110 points while MIT won for the 11th straight year with 20 points. WPI was second with 62 points.

Mooney crossed the line in 17:52, 17 seconds ahead of senior Mary Eccles of MIT. Her time was the third fastest in program history.

Junior Anita Green finished in 17th place with a time of 19:17 earning All-Conference honors. Green was followed by senior Rachel Burchill in 30th place (20:00).

Junior Nina Ragle was the fourth finisher for Coast Guard crossing the line in 20:22 (39th place). Sophomore Kirsten Carson was only a few spots behind Ragle in 43rd place (20:26).

Rounding out the top seven for the Bears was sophomore Olivia Suski in 66th place (20:52) followed by freshman Mia Huncharek in 69th place (21:10).

Coast Guard is back in action on Saturday, November 11th when they take part in the NCAA Division III New England Championship.
