Mooney Fourth at NCAA Championship, Earns All-America Honors

ELSAH, Ill. - Freshman Kaitlyn Mooney ran to a fourth place finish, earning All-America status, at the NCAA Division III National Championship Saturday afternoon hosted by Principa College.

Mooney crossed the finish line in 20:48.3 becoming the top freshman finisher since 2013 when Noelle Olson of St. Olaf finished in second place. Her fourth place finish is also tops in program history. Junior Khia Kurtenbach of University of Chicago won the overall title while John Hopkins took the team title with 96 total points.

Mooney wraps up an unbelievable freshman year as the top finisher from the New England region at the National Championship. She was named USTFCCCA New England Region Athlete of the Year after winning the NCAA Division III New England Championship with a meet record time since the race distance was moved to 6K in 2003. Mooney finishes the season winning five of the seven races she entered and setting both the 5K and 6K program record. Mooney earned NEWMAC Runner of the Year honors, NEWMAC Rookie of the Year honors and was a four times NEWMAC runner of the week this year. She was also named USTFCCCA National Runner of the Week after her performance at the Saratoga Invitational.

Coast Guard returns 14 of their 16 runners next season that ran to a 13th place at the NCAA New England Regional Championship and will look to build on this season's success.
