Coast Guard Academy senior baseball players Derek Petty and Ed Sella have been named the CGASPORTS.COM Co-Athletes of the Week.
Petty, pitching the important third game of the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) weekend series against WPI with the series tied at one game each, fired a five-hit shutout with a career-high 12 strikeouts in a 5-0 win on Saturday. The senior ace allowed just one extra base hit a, double, while walking just two. He is now 3-0 with a 2.19 ERA while leading the pitching staff with 21 strikeouts.
Sella hit .455 (10 for 22) leading the team with ten hits, five
runs scored, four doubles, four RBI's, a .500 on base percentage
and a .727 slugging percentage as the Bears split six games.
In the three-game NEWMAC series against WPI, Sella was 6 for
10 with three doubles and three RBI's and three runs scored as
Coast Guard took two out of three games. Sella is hitting .353 this
season and leads the team with seven doubles and a .529 slugging
percentage. He is tied for the team lead with ten runs scored and
is second with 11 RBI’s.
Coast Guard is 9-6 overall and 3-2 in the NEWMAC. The Bears host
Albertus Magnus in a doubleheader on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
