Junior Seth Strayer has been named the CGASPORTS.COM Athlete of the Week, presented by First Command after his record breaking weekend.
In the opening weekend of the annual Admirals? Cup Tournament he was the top shooter in both smallbore and air rifle competition as the Bears topped Michigan?s Grand Valley State University.
Strayer broke three long standing Academy smallbore records. First to fall was the 192 standing record established by Charles Ressell ?09 set 11 years ago. Strayer slid by posting a 193. With solid kneeling and prone scores to go with his standing Ressel?s individual aggregate score of 582 fell by the wayside as Strayer shot a 585.
With his 585 smallbore added to his team leading 587 air rifle he bested his own aggregate record of 1161, set last year, with a new high water mark of 1172.
Strayer also holds the Academy individual air rifle record, co-holds the prone record, and is a member of all seven school record teams.
The Bears are back in action on Friday at Ohio State.
