Lieutenant Myles McCarthy, in his second season as an assistant coach, graduated from the Coast Guard Academy in 2012 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. As a cadet, Myles was a four year runner on the Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field teams, earning multiple NEWMAC accolades.
Before returning to the Academy as a teacher, Myles served onboard Coast Guard cutters in Wilmington, NC and Kodiak, AK. He performed Law Enforcement, Search and Rescue, and Aids to Navigation missions along the East Coast, Eastern Caribbean, Gulf of Alaska, and Bering Sea.
At the Academy, Myles is an instructor in the Professional Maritime Studies Branch where he teaches navigation to Third Class cadets.
Myles, who is from Southampton, Mass., and his wife Katelyn live in Oakdale with their two children, Owen and Maeve.
