FORT MYERS, Fla. –  Sophomore Luke Sniatkowski pitched 6 2/3 innings and senior Blake Thompson tripled twice, drove in two runs and registered the save as Coast Guard remained unbeaten and completed a three-game sweep of archrival Merchant Marine for the first time since 2006 with a 6-3 win at the Gene Cusic Classic.

Sniatkowski (1-0) allowed six hits and a pair of earned runs while walking two and striking out five while Thompson faced the final batter of the game and got a double play as the Bears improved to 4-0, their best start since the game won the first five games of the 2005 season.

Merchant Marine drops to 0-3 on the season.

Coast Guard erupted for three runs, all with two outs in the first. Junior Mark Behne and sophomore Tim Duncan walked. Senior Matt Hanks, sophomore Brendan McNeil and sophomore Kyle Jackson had consecutive RBI singles for a 3-0 lead.

The Bears added two more in the fourth on an RBI triple by Thompson scoring freshman Chris Clark, who singled. Thompson and freshman Alex Murdoch pulled off a perfectly executed double steal with Thompson stealing home as the Bears pushed the lead to 5-0.

Merchant Marine finally got to Sniatkowski for two runs in the fifth on a two-out, two-run single by junior Quinn Fleming.

Coast Guard added an insurance run in the sixth as freshman Zach Serna walked and scored on Thompson's second triple of the game.

Merchant Marine loaded the bases in the ninth with one out, but Thompson got a fielder's choice ground ball which scored a run before the runner from second tried to score a second run, but was thrown out heading back to third to end the game.

Serna recorded his first collegiate hit, a single in the eighth, one of the Bears nine hits in the win. Thompson was the only Coast Guard player with multiple hits.

The Bears are back in action on Wednesday at 9 a.m. when they take on Minnesota Morris.
