NEW LONDON, Conn. – Sophomore Jack Fox took a no-hitter into the ninth and he settled for a complete game leading Emerson to a 7-1 win over Coast Guard in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.

Junior Luke Thompson broke up the no-hitter with one out in the ninth and with two outs classmate Will Stephens laced an RBI double to right to break up the shutout.

Fox (1-2) allowed two hits, one run and walked two while striking out four for the complete game win.

Coast Guard starter freshman PJ Gravalec (1-1) was the tough luck loser as he pitched six solid inning allowing three singles, and two earned runs while walking two and striking out seven.

Fox and Gravalec were locked in a pitchers' duel as neither team had a hit through four innings and the game was scoreless after five innings.

Emerson got two in the sixth on an RBI single by freshman John Gabert and a sacrifice fly by sophomore Joe Cuccio.

The Lions broke the game open with five runs in the eighth taking advantage of four walks, a hit batter, an error and just one hit, an infield RBI single by senior Neil Perry which closed the scoring giving Emerson a 7-1 lead.

Freshman Ryan McCahan and junior CJ Rogers drew back-to-back bases loaded walks giving the Lions a 4-0 lead. Senior Tim Quitadamo drove in a run on a fielder's choice and the Lions added a run on an error before the only hit of the inning.

Emerson had five hits, all singles, from five different people in the win.

Coast Guard is back in action on Friday when they host Castleton at 3:30 in a game that will be made up from an earlier postponement.
