Second Half Goal Lifts Lions over Bears

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Coast Guard dropped their second New Englnd Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game of the season, falling to Emerson 1-0 Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Bears fall to 1-5-2 overall and 0-2-0 in the conference. The Lions improve to 2-5-0 and 1-1-0 in the NEWMAC.

Junior Gavin Faucette was games lone goal scorer for Emerson while freshman Jack Isacke assisted the score.

After a scoreless first half with most of the of the game played in the middle of the field, the second half saw the Lions break through. In the 60thminute, Isacke played Faucette over the top of the Coast Guard defense. Faucette dribbled in on goal from the left side and fired his shot past a charging junior goalkeeper Dakota Harich giving Emerson a 1-0 lead.

The Bears continued to press for the tying goal and had their best opportunity in the final 30 seconds as senior Alex Hall settled a pass at the top of the penalty box. Hall turned, and hit a shot on goal. The shot however was directly into sophomore goalkeeper David Kemp's chest ending Coast Guard's attack and giving the Lions the 1-0 win.

Harich (1-4-1) made three saves on four shots on goal.

Kemp (2-4-0) earned the shutout, making three saves on three shots on goal.

Coast Guard is back in action on Wednesday, September 26th, when they host Mitchell. Opening kickoff is 6:00.
