KINGSTON, R.I. – Freshman Devin McClure won the 200 backstroke and the 200 freestyle leading Coast Guard to a 149-132 win over Springfield at the University of Rhode Island.
McClure won the 200 backstroke (1:58.82) and the 200 freestyle (1:45.58), sophomore Matthew Doppel won the 100 backstroke (54.84), senior Chasse Sodemann won the 100 breaststroke (58.14), freshman Connor Shenk won the 200 butterfly (1:59.17), junior Joe Rodriguez won the 50 freestyle (21.10), sophomore Tyler Dominick won the 100 freestyle (49.15) and senior Taylor Rowe won the 1,000 freestyle (10:05.64),
The Bears 200 medley relay of freshman Matthew Fritz, Sodemann, senior Patrick Jackson and Rodriguez won with a time of 1:36.95.
Coast Guard had several second place finishes as Fritz was second the 100 backstroke (55.35), sophomore Eric Fuhs in the 100 breaststroke (59.10), freshman Christian Lower in the 200 butterfly (1:59.77), junior John Pompay in the 50 freestyle (22:08), Rodriguez in the 100 freestyle (49.78) and senior Zach Baker in the 200 backstroke (2:04.50).
Coast Guard is now 2-0 on the season and the Bears are back in action on Friday night when the Bears host Wheaton at 6:00.
