4x400, Rehfuss Shine at Open New England Championship

NEW LONDON, Conn. - Senior Luke Rehfuss and the 4x400 both earned All-New England honors as the Coast Guard men's track & field team competed at the Open New England Championship hosted by Dartmouth.

The relay of juniors Nicholas Frystak, Benjamin Taminger and seniors Luke Rehfuss and Raeford Penny finished in third place (3:16.60). Their time is the second fastest in school history.

Rehfuss qualified for the finals on Friday afternoon running 54.48 for the seventh fastest time going into Saturday. He then moved up one spot in the finals to take sixth overall, crossing the line in 54.38 for sixth place.

Also competing in individual events for the Bears was Penny (50.22) and junior Jacob Pawlina (50.26) taking 18th and 19th in the 400, junior Michael Bishop was 21st in the 200 (22.34) and sophomore Ben Zarlengo was 13th in the discus (142-09) and 19th in the hammer (160-06).

Coast Guard is back in action next weekend when they head back to Cambridge, Massachusetts for MIT's Last Chance Qualifier.
