Bears Finish First at CGA Invitational

NEW LONDON, Conn.-- Coast Guard men's track and field took first overall with 187 points in the Coast Guard Spring Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Coast Guard was first with 187, 2) Westfield State 115, 3) UMass Dartmouth 105, 3) Eastern Conn. St. 105, 5) Trinity 74, 6) Connecticut College 66, 7) Babson 43.

Junior Ben Zarlengo finished first overall in both the discus and the hammer throw. He had two personal best performances with the discus 46.95m (154') and a 55.25m (181'3'") distance in the hammer throw.

Sophomore Josiah Davis finished first overall in the 1500m with a personal best time of 4:01.92.

Junior Andre Gallant took first in the 5000m at 15:52.52 with a collegiate best time. The Bears took the top three spots with Gallant followed by Joseph Roth at 16:03.19 and Logan Bonner at 16:05.41.

The 4x400 relay team of Colton Atkinson, Jack Brunswick, Greg Costello, and Davis finished in first place with a time of 3:28.51.

Freshman Javon Wingate recorded a 6.81m (22'4") distance in the long jump with his first place finish.

Sydney Johnson and Matthew Kerst finished in second and third overall in the 800m. Johnson finished at 1:57.49 and Kerst finished at 1:57.60.

Adam Jibril-Barnes had a personal best in the 110 hurdles with his second place finish at 15.56.

Edward Carroll had a second place finish in the triple jump at 13.08 (42'11").

In the discus, the Bears had the top three marks, Zarlengo finished first overall, followed by Justin Jezuit in second at 39.98m (127'11") and Dante Roberts 38.13m (125'01").

Senior Jacob Pawlina finished third overall in the javelin throw at 56.36m (184'11").

The Bears are back in action next weekend at the Silfen Invitational at Connecticut College
