NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Bears lost a tough competition against the 2013 National Collegiate Pistol Champion Army team in shoulder-to-shoulder competition at US Coast Guard Academy's Shooting Range. The Bears compiled 5829 points against Army's 6272.
Sophomore Emily Burlison led the Bears with a combined score of 1479, firing a 522 Air Pistol, 488 Standard Pistol, and a 469 Free Pistol. Senior Corrin Nolin led the team in Air Pistol with a 524, and Free Pistol with a 484. Freshman Dustin Smith led the Bear's in Standard Pistol with a personal best 497.
In Women's Sport Pistol, Burlison fired a personal best 528 to lead the Women's team to a team score of 1535. Nolin and Burlison tied to for the lead in Women's Air Pistol, both firing a 348 for a team score of 1039. The Bear's Women's team lost to Army in the aggregate competition, 2574 to 2702. Burlison was the high shooter for the Bears with a cumulative score of 876.
The Bear's Pistol Team will meet USMMA and Yale here at home next weekend, 6-7 February 2015. This is the first match against USMMA in recent history.
