NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Coast Guard swept Navy in all events in shoulder-to-shoulder competition this weekend. The Bears compiled 6282 points against Navy's 6074.
The Bears handed the Midshipmen a loss in each of the five Pistol events this weekend. Sophomore Helen Oh led all competitors in Air Pistol with a 565, with the Bears winning their first event over Navy, 2196 to 2137. With a 59 point lead going into Standard Pistol, again Oh led all shooters with a 542 and led the Bears with their second victory over Navy, 2079 to 2017. With a 121 point lead going into the last of the three Open events, Oh again led all competitors with a 522 and allowed Coast Guard to defeat Navy for the third time this weekend, 2007 to 1920. This is the first time in many years that the Bears have defeated Navy in Pistol aggregate competition, 6282 to 6074.
Oh led all competitors in Air-565, Free-528, and Standard Pistol-542, firing a combined aggregate score of 1635. This is the second weekend in a row that Oh dominated all competitors in Open Pistol competition when last weekend, she led all competitors in their match against Army.
In Women's Air Pistol, Oh fired an excellent score of 375 to lead the women's team to victory firing a team score of 1078 against the Midshipmen 1051. Oh led the women in Sport Pistol with a 546 for a team score of 1564 against Navy's 1518. The Bear Women defeated the Naval Academy in the Women's aggregate competition, 2642 to 2569. Oh was the high Woman shooter for the Bears with a cumulative score of 921.
The Bears will compete on the road next week to face The Citdadel on October 22-23.
