Bears Beat Merchant Marine; Fall to Army

WEST POINT, N.Y. -- The Bears traveled to West Point to compete in the Pistol Collegiate Sectional, 10-11 February 2017. The Collegiate Sectional is used to determine who attends the National Collegiate Pistol Championships at Fort Benning, Ga., 20-24 March 2017. The Bears fell short in the Aggregate Open Competition to West Point, but defeated USMMA, 6250, to 6349, to 5759, respectively.

The Black Knights, Bears, and the Mariners battled it out in Free Pistol, with the Black Knights on top for a 2027, 1978, to 1803 victory. Sophomore Helen Oh was high shooter in the match with a 526 to earn the Gold Medal. The other members of the Bears scoring team were Sophomore Brian Kim (494), and Freshmen Kevin Bennett (474), and a personal best by Johnny Ly (484). This is the first time for Ly to be a member of the scoring four.

Saturday morning, the Bears opened up against USMMA and USMA in Air Pistol, shooting a 2192, to USMA's 2220, to USMMA's 2023. Kim led the Bears with a personal best 562 and garnering the silver medal in the Sectional. Rounding out the four person team was Oh (553), Bennett (548), and Ly (529).

Saturday afternoon, saw the Bears shoot a solid Standard Pistol score, firing a 2080, to the Mariner's 1923, and the Black Knight's 2102. Kim again led the Bears with a 546 and again earned the Sectional's Silver Medal, Oh's 516, Bennett's 526, and Lehenbauer's 492, rounded out the four person scoring team.

In the Women's events, the Lady Bears defeated the Lady Black Knights, 2661 to 2621 in the Women's Team Aggregate. Oh led the Lady Bears in Air Pistol, firing a 367, followed by Lehenbauer's, 355, and Junior Meghan Van Hise's 347.  The Lady Bears were defeated by the Lady Black Knights, 1069 to 1089. In Women's Sport Pistol, Oh fired a 541 to lead the Bears and earn a Gold Medal in the Sectional, with Lehenbauer firing a personal best 531, earning a Silver Medal, and Van Hise firing a 520, defeating the Black Knights, 1592 to 1532.  Sophomore Mary Carr fired a 484 to round out the team.

The Bears are now 7-3 for the season.

They compete in two weeks against the Mariners at Kings Point, NY, 24-25 February.
