Records Fall as Bears Beat Merchant Marine

KINGS POINT, N.Y. -- The Bears traveled to Merchant Marine to compete against the Mariners. This is the first home competition for the Mariners in many years. The Bears defeated the Mariners in all events, 6339 to 5713. The Bears 6339 was the best team score in over a decade.

Friday afternoon, the Bears and the Mariners battled it out in Free Pistol, with the Bears on top for an Academy Record, 2043 to the Mariners 1697. Sophomore Helen Oh fired an individual Academy Record, 549. Sophomore Brian Kim fired a 507, Sophomore Annika Lehenbauer fired a personal best, 503, and Freshman Kevin Bennett fired a 484.

Saturday morning, the Bears opened up against USMMA in Air Pistol, shooting a 2187 to USMMA's 2072. Oh fired a competition high 568. Rounding out the four-person team was Kim (553), Bennett (525), and Lehenbauer (541).

Saturday afternoon, saw the Bears shoot a solid Standard Pistol score, firing a 2109, to the Mariner's 1949. Kim led the competition with a 547, Oh's 530, Bennett's 518, and Lehenbauer firing a personal best, 514, rounding out the four-person scoring team.

They compete in four weeks at the Collegiate Pistol Championships at Fort Benning, GA, 20-25 March 2017. The Bears have been invited to compete in all team events and seven of our eight pistol shooters have received individual invitations. The Bears are seeded 5th among the ten teams invited to the Championships.
