Fourth Place for Offshore Sailing at ECSA Fall Off Soundings Regatta

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Bears Offshore Sailing Team competed in the 78th running of the Eastern Connecticut Sailing Associations Fall Off Soundings Regatta. The regatta had 108 boats that were broken into 12 different classes depending on the vessel size and speed.

Sailing aboard CGA S/V GLORY, a J-44, the team sailed in the eight boat class 11. The regatta began Friday morning with a start off New London Ledge Light for a 22 nautical mile race finishing off Greenport, NY. The team held their own in light to medium air finishing with a corrected time of 4th overall, just missing out on the podium.

After staying on the boat Saturday night, the team competed in a short course race in Gardiners Bay on Saturday morning. GLORY, not known for short course maneuvering being the largest boat in the class, finished 6th for the day and a tie for 4th overall with Mark Greenwalt's Tripp 43 Secret Affair.

Sailing for the Bears was Skipper Richard O'Leary, tactician Eric Gimple with Zachary Groce, Derek Siliman, Amy Chamberlin, Gregory Gaskel, Toby Ferl, Jacob Dennis, Jesse McKnight and Megan Wadleigh rounding out the crew.

The team is off this weekend to celebrate Parents Weekend and will return to action on September 29th for the ECSA Duck Island Distance Race.
