CRANSTON, R.I. – The women's sailing team finished fourteenth at the inaugural Women's Showcase Finals hosted by Brown University. Eighteen teams from across the country, each having qualified out of a semifinal event, battled it out across fourteen races per division. The Bears team, sailing some new combinations for the first time, held their own at the toughest women's regatta on the fall schedule.
Despite rain and chilly temperatures, the conditions were ideal for a championship on Saturday. A shifty north-northwest breeze kept racing tight. The race committee was able to run a full ten races per division on Saturday.
Sunday's wind was much lighter and more fickle. The race committee was only able to complete four races per division, with several postponements and abandonments.
Madelynn Widmeier and Anna Morin finished eleventh in A-Division with 146 points. Christina Nothacker and Anna Maria Vaccaro were sixteenth in B-Division with 175 points. The team combined for 321 points and fourteenth overall.
Brown University won the Women's Showcase Finals with 158 points. Yale was second with 160 and MIT finished third with 204.
The coed team had a strong showing at the Captain Hurst Bowl hosted by Dartmouth College, finishing seventh out of eighteen teams with a total of 268 points. Thirty three races were run across three divisions during the two day event.
Mack Fox and Brian Nelson finished eighth in A-Division with 94 points. In B-Division, Andrew Widmeier and Lily Maranto finished tenth with 108 points. Gage Schoenherr and Halee Lewis finished third in C-Division with 66 points.
