NEW LONDON, Conn. – Junior Erin Cunningham connected on 7 of 8 from 3-point range and finished with a career-high 28 points and a team-high nine rebounds leading Trinity to an 83-58 win over Coast Guard in a non-conference game.
Cunningham was 3 of 4 from behind the arc in the first half for nine points before scoring 19 points in the second half as finished 9 of 12 from the floor in the win as the Bantams improved to 9-2 on the season.
Junior Erica Junquet added 18 points while classmate Becky Reifler finished with 12 points in the win.
Senior Gillian Gerton led the Bears (4-5) with 18 points and a game-high 10 rebounds to record her second double-double of the season and 19th of her career. Junior Jayla Joyner had a season-high 10 points off the bench for the Bears.
The Bantams were 12 of 25 from 3-point range (48 percent) in the win while hitting 27 of 58 from the floor (46.6 percent).
Coast Guard was 22 of 68 from the field (32.4 percent) while making 4 of 20 from behind the arc.
Trinity used a 14-2 run to end the first quarter as the Bantams led 21-6 after one.
Coast Guard would score the final seven points of the first half to cut the deficit to 37-31 at the break.
The Bantams would take control of the game in the third using an 11-2 run pushing the lead to 55-39 with 3:04 left in the third. Trinity led 65-47 after three.
Trinity did not let up in the fourth scoring 12 straight taking its largest lead of the game 81-54 with 3:39 left.
Coast Guard is back in action tomorrow night when the Bears host Mount Holyoke in a NEWMAC game at 7:00.
