Big Second Half Carries Trinity Past Bears

HARTFORD, Conn. – Trinity used an 18-2 run to start the second half and the Bantams beat the Coast Guard 80-44 in a non-conference game. The Bantams outscored the Bears 54-20 in the second half.

Trinity remains unbeaten improving to 6-0 while the Bears saw their two-game win streak snapped and dropped to 3-5 on the season.

Trinity, which led 26-24 at halftime, would score the first nine points of the second half and outscore the Bears 18-2 to start the third quarter as the lead ballooned to 44-26 with 4:13 left in the third quarter. The Bantams outscored Coast Guard 27-9 in the third quarter and led 53-33 after three.

Freshman Emma Puddington, who earlier in the day was named the NEWMAC Defensive Athlete of the Week, had a career-high 14 points and team-high five rebounds to lead the Bears while sophomore Annabella Farabaugh finished with 12 points.  Junior Zoe Riis-Fallica led the Bears with five assists.

Trinity shot 49.2 percent (30-61) in the win while making 9 of 20 from 3-point range and Becky Reifler had a game-high 19 point to lead the Bantams

Coast Guard was 18 of 56 from the floor (32.1 percent) and connected on just 4 of 18 from behind the arc. The Bears turned the ball over 24 times while Trinity finished with 12 turnovers in the win.

The Bears led 22-18 when Puddington made a pair of free throws with 3:47 left in the first half, the Bantams would score eight straight outscoring the Bears 8-2 to end the half and lead 26-24 at the break.

Coast Guard is back in action on Saturday at Babson in a NEWMAC game at 1:00.
