South Hadley, Mass-- Kyra Hartman had a game-high 19 points to lead Coast Guard women's basketball to a 86-21 victory over Mount Holyoke in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Thursday night. The Bears are now 4-10 overall and 3-3 in conference play, while Mount Holyoke drops to 0-13 overall and 0-6 in the NEWMAC.
Mount Holyoke was led by Annika Brooks and Katlyn Grover with seven points apiece.
Brooks opened the game with a jump shot to give the Lyons their first two points of the game. Martinelli answered by sinking a three to spark a 19-0 run for the Bears. Hartman scored 13 of her points in the first quarter as they finished with a 23-5 advantage.
Coast Guard allowed only one point by Mount Holyoke in the second quarter as the Bears extended their lead 44-6 heading into halftime.
Martinelli was 4-5 from the field in the third quarter as she led the Bears with eight points, following the halftime break. Coast Guard finished the third, outscoring Mount Holyoke 21-6.
Mount Holyoke scored nine points in the fourth quarter but Coast Guard continued their own scoring by adding another 21 points to finish the game 86-21.
Coast Guard shot 54.4% (37-68) from the field while Mount Holyoke shot 16.7% (8-48). The Bears held the advantage in rebounds 50-27.
Coast Guard will return home to continue NEWMAC action on Saturday. January 12 against Babson at 1:00 PM.
