CANTON, N.Y. – Kyra Hartman had career-high 22 points to go with eight rebounds to earn All-tournament MVP honors leading Coast Guard past SUNY Potsdam 81-74 to win the championship game of Kevin Fee/Roos Classic at SUNY Canton.
Jacqueline Ward, who also earned a spot on the All-tournament team, added 18 points and Annabella Farabaugh chipped in with 17 points in the win for Coast Guard which starts the season 2-0. Faith Butler had a game-high 10 rebounds and five assists while Breanna Wood added nine rebounds.
Dyamon Hunter had a game-high 34 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead SUNY Potsdam (1-1).
Coast Guard shot 31.5 percent (23 of 73) and hit 7 of 20 from 3-point range in the win while Potsdam was 31 of 69 (44.9 percent) and made just 3 of 18 from downtown.
Potsdam led 14-13 after the first quarter, but the bears scored the first eight points of the second quarter to take a 21-14 lead with 8:07 left in the first half. Coast Guard led 38-28 at halftime and 58-50 after three quarters.
SUNY Potsdam would start the fourth quarter on a 13-4 run to take the lead 63-32 with 6:49 left. Coast Guard would answer with an 8-2 run to take the lead for good 70-65 with 3:09 left and hold on for the win.
Coast Guard is off all week and the Bears are back in action on Saturday at Salve Regina at 1:00.
