MADISON, N.J. – The Coast Guard women's soccer team earned their third win of the season, topping Penn State – Behrend 2-0 on the final day of the Drew Tournament Sunday afternoon.
With the win the Bears move to 3-1 on the season, while the Lions fall to 2-2.
Coast Guard found the back of the net late in the first half, as Highsmith fired home a blocked shot giving the Bears a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
The second half was similar to the first half as Coast Guard did not find their second goal till late in the period. In the 89thminute, Pearce served a ball across the front of the goal from the left side. Ballard stepped up and fired home the second goal of the game ending any chance of a Penn State – Behrend comeback.
Freshman Katharina Commins (3-1) earned her second shutout of the season making four saves. Commins has allowed only three goals in her first four games in goal for the Bears and has a 0.79 goals against average.
Freshman Madi Jones (2-2) made five saves allowing the two goals.
Coast Guard is back in action on Wednesday, September 12thwhen they host Salve Regina in nonconference action at 4:30.
