NEW LONDON, Conn.-- Emmanuel used two first half goals to defeat Coast Guard women's soccer 2-1 in both teams season opener on Saturday afternoon.
Junior Paige White sent the ball to freshman Jill Kutash as she put away her first goal of the season in the 26th minute. Senior Natalie Dash scored on a breakaway in the 39th minute to give the Saints a 2-0 advantage.
Despite taking the first three shots of the game, the Bears couldn't get one past Emmanuel senior goalkeeper Lexi Gawron. Coast Guard senior captain Lizzie Miller put the Bears on the board in the 81st minute as they converted on a penalty kick, cutting the deficit to the 2-1 final.
The Bears held the advantage in shots, 14-5 including seven shots on goal, and had the advantage in corner kicks, 5-2.
Gawron made four saves in her 80 minutes of play, earning the win for the Saints. Coast Guard senior Claire Hurley made two saves in the setback.
The Bears are back in action in their home opener on Wednesday, September 4 at 7:00 PM against UMass. Boston.
