Bears Fall to UMass Boston

NEW LONDON, Conn.-- Sophomore Grace McGettrick scored two goals for UMass Boston lead the Beacons to a 2-1 victory over Coast Guard on Wednesday evening. The Bears fall to 0-2 on the season and the Beacons improve to 2-1.

McGettrick put the Beacons on the board first in the fifth minute with her first goal of the season with UMass Boston's first shot of the game. The Bears were held to just two shots in the first half.

Junior Sabrina Robertson scored her first goal of the season to tie the game, 1-1 in the 61st minute. Robertson took a blast from outside the 18 to beat the Beacons freshman goalkeeper Maria Spylios.

McGettrick scored the go ahead goal in the 84th minute to give the Beaconds the 2-1 advantage.

Both teams had 7 shots, and Coast Guard held the advantage in corner kicks, 5-2.

Spylios recorded two saves to improve to 2-1 on her season in goal for UMass Dartmouth. Senior goalkeeper Claire Hurley made one save in the setback and dropped to 0-2.

The Bears are back in action this weekend on the road in the Drew University Tournament. They will take on Bard on Saturday, September 7 at 3:30 PM and then play the #12 ranked Swarthmore College on Sunday, September 8 at 12:00 PM.
