NEW LONDON, Conn.-- Freshman Audrey Lavey scored two goals for Wesleyan as they defeated Coast Guard women's soccer 2-0 on Wednesday afternoon. The Bears drop to 2-6 on the season, while the Cardinals improve to 5-1-1.
Lavey got Wesleyan on the board in the 21st minute when she brought the ball in from the left side and cut past her defender in the box, firing her shot in the top right hand corner of the goal. Wesleyan outshot the Bears 8-6 in the first half and had a 1-0 lead at the half.
Freshman Dani Milovanov sent a pass to Lavey just outside the box as she put away her second goal of the game in the 55th minute to gave Wesleyan the 2-0 final.
Coast Guard outshot Wesleyan 13-11 and the Cardinals had a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Freshman goalkeeper Sarah Schollenberger made two saves for the Bears and is now 2-4 on the season. Wesleyan sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Hammond made five saves in her shutout and is now 5-1-1 on her season.
The Bears are back in NEWMAC action on Saturday, September 28 when they travel to WPI at 12 PM.
