BABSON PARK, Mass.-- Sophomore Sydney McLaughlin scored two goals for Babson to hand Coast Guard their first New England Women's and Men's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) loss of the season. The Bears fall to 6-7 overall and 4-1 in conference play. Babson improves to 5-6-1 on the season and 1-2-1 in the NEWMAC.
McLaughlin scored the first goal of the game, her first of the season, in the 16th minute as she fired a shot to curve in towards the far post, giving Babson a 1-0 lead.
In the 79th minute, junior Maggie McCabe sent a through ball to McLaughlin to finish with her second goal of the game for the 2-0 final for the Beavers.
The Bears outshot the Beavers 15-14, and Babson had a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Freshman Sarah Schollenberger made seven saves for the Bears in the loss and is now 5-5 on the season. Freshman goalkeeper Morgan Fedosiewich had eight saves for Babson and improves to 5-5-1 on her season.
Coast Guard is back in action on Tuesday, October 15 at 4:00 PM when they host Smith in NEWMAC action.
